SLM is a technology in which metal powder is completely melted under the heat of laser beam and solidified after cooling.

 

SLM process generally needs to add support structure, its main role is reflected in:

1) Undertake the next layer of unformed powder layer, to prevent laser scanning to the thick metal powder layer, collapse.

 

2) Due to the internal shrinkage stress after the powder is heated and melted and cooled in the molding process, the supporting structure connects the formed part with the unformed part, this kind of shrinkage can be effectively inhibited, and the forming parts can maintain stress balance.
